The Hardest aspect of a winter engagement session is the planning. It’s all about the ice, cute layers and coniferous trees.

Sarnia, and almost all of Lambton isn’t known for rolling hills and amazing landscapes. We do luck out with the ideal spots, a few bits of waterfalls, the above being a super secret one, being in the snow belt. It can be a summer day in Sarnia, but Hoth out in Arkona and Grand Bend.

One of the Biggest hurdles we deal with are the trees. We’re never a fan of dormant trees. Their tops always creeping into the top corners and sides of the photos. We always see so many good shots that could’ve been great shots if it wasn’t for one of those pesky branches wandering into the frame.

Luckily, There’s been a lot of farm like fields of pine trees planted in on almost every township around Sarnia. The largest one, out in Hungry Hollow, we have yet to use.

Frozen, or almost frozen streams can make for an interesting scene. Rock Glen, has the easiest to use for some good Winter Engagement images. If you look at the above image, he had no problems getting out on that rock in leather soled monks.

Ice skating, at Wawanosh wetlands, or Lake Chipican can always bring out the laughs, and make a great addition for a variety of photos.

Layering for the shoot can be the most important. You want to keep the hands and tips of noses from getting to red and purple. Cute scarves and toques can add more excitement to and engagement shoot then the sand and beach waves if winter is more your thing. The colder it is, the closer you have to cuddle and the cuter the engagement photos will be.

The shore ice, when solid and stable enough, can look unearthly and almost cloud like. With the right amount of off camera flash, this scene would not have the same impactfulness if it was naturally lit.
